Fishing:

Close by is the world renowned Mataura River, famous for it's "match-the-hatch" fly fishing. You will enjoy fishing in this river and many of the other world class fisheries in the region. We can help you with fishing guides, transport and equipment.

Walking:

There are many walking and hiking trails in the region with the famous Kepler Track only an hours drive away.

High Country Walks High Country Walks is a guided or freedom walking excursion into sub alpine wilderness just 5 minutes up the road from Castle Hill Lodge. They offer an intimate experience of the high country on a privately owned working farm. With its vast space and beauty there is a real chance to get away from it all. There are short and long walks, guided or unguided you choose.

Mountain Biking:

Ride some of the best mountain bike trails New Zealand has to offer. Fantastic terrain, beautiful scenery and all in and around the Queenstown region. If you are brave, try some heli-biking; taking a helicopter ride to the high peaks of the Remarkables and descend 1600 metres, as fast as possible, to the valley below!

Around the Mountain Cycle Trail - This trail allows cyclists an opportunity to explore and discover some of New Zealand's most secluded and rustic rural settings at a relaxing pace without sacrificing the comforts of home. Those eager to be transported back in time will appreciate the many historic townships and relics left behind by the region’s pioneers. Along the way you can expect to be welcomed by charming locals, served mouth-watering meals and told stories about the beautiful places they call home, all while experiencing real, heartland New Zealand. 

Skiing:

The southern ski fields are all within an easy drive from Castle Hill Lodge. Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona and Treble Cone - all famous and very accessible. Castle Hill Lodge is the ideal place to stay when you wish to enjoy the skiing in this unique part of New Zealand.

Steam Train:

The famous Kingston Flyer steam train is based in Kingston on the southern shores of Lake Wakatipu and about 20 minutes from Castle Hill Lodge. This vintage steam train will take you on the 14km stretch of railway that stretches between Kingston and Fairlight. Sit back in one of the early 1900s carriages and watch the spectacular scenery roll by as you sip on a beverage and get to experience a bygone era.
