The Castle Hill Lodge Southland Farm Experience

This exclusive Castle Hill Lodge Package offers visitors the opportunity to experience for themselves the superb southern hospitality and sensational Northern Southland scenery.

Garston is a small, friendly, farming community and the Lodge is nestled among the hills in ten acres of its own grounds, surrounded by farm land as far as the eye can see.

We offer you a chance to meet some of the locals and see some of the ‘real’ New Zealand while visiting a working farm.


Day 1:

Arrival or collection from Queenstown

Meet some of the animals of Castle Hill Lodge.

We currently a couple of friendly goats, 2 Kune Kune pigs, a pet sheep and a cat called ‘Hercules’!

In the evening you will enjoy a meal and a bottle of Speights, Southland’s favourite brew and the hospitality of the Garston Hotel, NZ’s most inland pub, and a chance to meet some of our locals.

Day 2:


A tour of a working sheep farm led by one of the local farmers. This will take about two hours. It is not a tourist attraction it is a real working farm. Your guide will show you the workings of the farm explain about sheep farming in Southland and you will join him on some of his daily tasks.

Morning tea/lunch

In the afternoon we will take you on a short drive to the Historic Ski Hut at the beginning of the Nevis Road to Bannockburn. The vantage point offers some spectacular views of the valley and hills beyond.

The rest of the afternoon/ early evening will be yours to sit a relax while a good old fashioned roast dinner is prepared for you to enjoy with a complimentary bottle of New Zealand wine.

Day 3:


Depart or transport to Queenstown.


$325 per person based on two persons sharing.

(Includes meal and 1 330ml bottle of Speights per person at the Garston Hotel)
